APRIL 14~ THE GOAL OF FAITH!
The goal of faith is to behold the unseen. The mission of a spiritual leader is to help connect people to Jesus by faith. Faith has become the new lenses for perceiving Jesus.
“Though you have not seen him, you love him;and even though you do not see him, you believe him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy” 1 Peter 1:8
How do you love Him you have not seen? How do you believe Him whom you do not see? To the degree it fills you with inexpressible and glorious joy.
Peter writing to believers whose lives have been radically transformed by an experience with Jesus anchored not on seeing him by natural sight but by inward intuition. Peter does not advocate a face to face encounter with Jesus like many preachers do today.
He was not praying for the Christians to aspire to have Jesus appear to them. Why? Because Peter was there the day Jesus rebuked Thomas, ” Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” John 20:29
Seeking to see Jesus with your natural eyes before you believe does not enhance your faith, neither does it make you special; it probably because you are weak.
FAITH IS THE NEW WAY OF SEEING JESUS!
There are two different Greek words used by Peter in 1 Peter 1:8 for the word ‘Seen and See’. The words are eldo and horao. Eldo means to examine and inspect, while horao means to stare at.
“Though you have not seen (ειδό) him, you love him; and even though you do not see (ορώ) him, you believe him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy” 1 Peter 1:8
So let me rephrase that verse to help you grasp what Peter is saying:
“Though you have not had a face to face interview with Jesus(to inspect and examine him), you love him, and even though you do not physically stare at him, you believe him…” 1 Peter 1:8
These same words was Jesus by Jesus in rebuking Thomas:
Jesus saith unto him, “Thomas, because thou hast seen (horao: to stare at) me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have. not seen (eldo: inspect and examine), and yet have believed.” John 20:29
“Because you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls” 1 Peter 1:9
The goal of your faith is seeing with your heart that which is veiled to the natural eyes. That is the ultimate victory, the salvation of your soul.
